I've recently got into affiliate marketing and I love it. I think it's fucking fantastic.
I've been putting in the time 15 hours a day the last 3 weeks and my many sleepless nights are starting to pay off.

On the flipside, my state of being well socially lubricated has went down drastically.
When I worked at my restaurant it was the opposite.. I was in a talkative mood from being social and fun all day, and going out at night was CAKE.

Mmmm yeah look at that delicious succulent cake oh fuck yeah baby yea... fuck yea oh so good fuck no you can't have it you fat fuck

At the moment it's obviously overkill because I'm still tackling the learning curve. In a month or so though when I reach that next level of understanding and don't need to work all day reading programming code, there will be a better balance.

Still though, I'm curious how you computer programmers and 'systems analysts' switch modes.

Ultimately I want this to pay for my travels around the globe without being tied down to a location. The way things are going it looks like that can happen within 6 months. I'm pretty amped, and I think that is what even out my logical and emotional sides.

Post your experiences

Cheers~

many people believe in doing what you enjoy doing. i believe in doing something that's in alignment with what you enjoy. meaning, if being socially active and interacting with people and girls in particular is what you enjoy, do something that's in alignment with that.

for instance, i used to work at guess clothing and also modeled, both of which offered plenty of chances to interact with people. now my best friend and i are starting our own high fashion design company, and it's taking about 40-50 hours a week (plus the 30-40 hours a week of school i'm already committed to). add to that the gym and eating and sleeping, and i hardly have time to do anything. OR so it seems.

point is, if the desire is strong enough, you'll find ways to satisfy it. you just have to learn to be resourceful. take every and any opportunity to interact with others.

that said, sometimes you just can't work your way around the work hours so easily. in that case, like you mentioned, you just have to kind of learn your work as best you can, be optimal at work and manage your time -- it will pay off soon and you'll have more free time on your hands.

do share your experiences as they further develop.

It can help to have a warm up phonecall or conversation with your friends or girlies before you go out.

I can toss you some sloppy seconds when they are on the walk of shame out of my room in the morning. Then you can converse, warm up, drop rail, and the pump will be primed to go out and rage!

This is a big negative about IM, you end up spending soo much time in isolation. That is why if i start to get big, i hope to join up with fellow IM in my city, hire a office room/building and have people around me. Are u into SEO, PPC?

PPC/CPA.

It's funny cause you read some of the major blogs by super affiliates and they're pretty wrapped up in work and don't want to leave the house if they can make money.. but at the same time theyre pulling a million a month. To me I'd be like...... durrrr go have some fucking fun! what chu talking about

Motivation is the easy part :p I spent 15 hours a day sometimes absorbing everything I can like a sponge. Finding time for other things is the tough part. I'm actually applying right now to some social jobs to get me back in the groove.
I'm determined to turn it into a career making 500k a year.

Ditch the blogs/thirty day challenge/niche marketing on crack model stuff - it doesn't work that well. With blogs, I was hitting maybe 1/200 conversion rate of visitors to products, if even that. Nowadays, using other methods, 2%+ isn't really out of the question. My biggest earner at the moment has a 10% conversion rate and I'm buying clicks off adwords at $0.04 per - it's brilliant!

If you want to do affiliate marketing (i.e., selling products), buy Info Product Killer for physical products (worth EVERY penny) or Andre Chaperon's bootstrap method/Affiliate Project X if you want to push info products. Using a combination of APX and bootstrap, I've been pulling in $50-100 a day after putting up a site last Wednesday. No extra work on my part. So awesome.

If you're interested in PPC-CPA (which you should be), ppc-coach.com is awesome. I only signed up recently, but there's a wealth of good information on there. $50 per month is a bargain for what you get.

Android, I've only been doing this stuff hardcore-style for the past month or so (dabbled in it before that with an hour or two a day), but I can see the same problem myself. I've been working ridiculous 12+ hour days, and while it's paying off, I can see my social intuition fading away. If one of my mates called after I'd been working for a solid amount of time, I'd have difficulty carrying on a conversation. Pretty fucked up!

The majority of the IM guys (who I've spoken with, anyway) are introverted, social recluses. They hate what they're doing, but they like seeing their bank balances go up. Kinda like the guys playing World of Warcraft who want to kill the dragon so they can show off to their friends.

Tyler seems to err on the side of moderation (http://realsocialdynamics.blogspot.com/2008/08/fueling-your-neurology-for-work-and.html). Having just re-read that post for the first time in a long time, makes sense. Hope it's useful to you.
