...aka "My Adventures in Osaka"

I finally moved to Osaka 2 days ago and one of the things I promised myself is that I would keep some sort of diary/field report entries about my life here.

Since RSD is by far the best program out there and I use their methods, I decided to keep the journal here.

I'm going to post up various field reports and stories that I hope you enjoy.

I hope to receive both criticism of the constructive nature and comments as well.

One of the things I will post up soon when I am in a more comfortable position to type (my furniture is not being delivered until Monday so I'm literally sitting on the floor with my desktop computer -- hell, I don't even have a futon to sleep on for the next few nights) is about meeting girls through Japan's MySpace rival, Mixi. In fact, two of the three 'dates' that I have for this week so far are from it.

I'll also write very soon about daygame in Osaka as it's something I want to improve greatly on. I approached about 30 girls today and it was fantastic.

Stay tuned as I will update very often.

Online Dating via Mixi

Mixi (mixi.jp) is the MySpace of Japan. Lots of people use it -- millions even. And for some reason, there are at least in my experience, way more girls on it than guys.

One of the great standard features of Mixi is that you can see the "footprints" aka people who have visited your profile. Generally people come to your profile by seeing you post in one of the many thousands of forums and curiously click on your name. If I see that a girl from Osaka has viewed my profile, I send her a pretty non-direct friendly message (Hey what's up, I just moved to Osaka and I love this place -- or something like this). I get a reply about 95% of the time and after that, I just talk to them for a bit through mixi. We might exchange a half dozen messages or so before I suggest we hang out some time next week. On mixi, I'm very non-threatening and indirect with my convos.

I'll usually say let's hang out next week (enter day here) and no matter what she says in the next message (unless it's a downright no, I don't want to hang out -- and this has not happened to me yet), I will get her # and go from there. Transition to real life.

Just like how Tim has delusional confidence, I have this belief that is at the delusional level that Japan is the greatest country in the world and Osaka is its best city. This is welded into my mind and I'm always in a happy, positive state here. It's such a great place. :)

Field Report: First night out at the clubs

I finally have a desk and a chair in my place so I can type without my back trying to rip off my body. Nice!

Last night, I met the Sausage King of Chicago and Juice (who has a pretty damn good blog about the Osaka scene but I can't dig up the URL right now).

Generally my goal is to always have fun and that was accomplished whole-heartedly. We went to a club called Onzien aka "11" in the SINsaibashi district of Osaka. Turns out that the hotel I was staying at the first night I was here is right next to the building where the club is.

At "11", it was a hip hop special event brought to you by Adidas. The guy to girl ratio was pretty bad (had to be 3 guys for every 1 girl). The majority of the night I was just chilling with A.F. and J. but every so often I would run a set.

Here are a few of the approaches I made:

-Saw two girls sitting down by themselves and both looked pretty tired and out of it. Turns out one of the girls looked very much like a friend of mine in Kansai so I went up to them beaming and looked at her and said that she looked so much like my friend. She laughed and told me my Japanese is so good (if you go to Japan and utter even one word to a Japanese, they will almost always say that your Japanese is excellent -- it's their knee-jerk reaction to a foreigner speaking their tongue).

I talk with her and her friend for a bit more and just generally joke around for a bit. They're laughing quite a bit and on a high, I attempted to number close the girl who looked like my friend. I wasn't pissed off at all though -- it was going to be a great night no matter what happens.

-On the way to the toilet, I said "Konbanwa" (good evening) to a few sets as a pre-opener and one in particular caught my eye. After I said it, they were smiling and laughing. I plan on working more on these pre-openings and see how they work out in the future.

I like this konbanwa-on-the-way-somewhere opener because it shows that you are friendly and happy but also that you are too busy to talk to them at the moment.

After I did my business, I went back to them and frankly, I don't remember how I re-opened the set but just like the first set, we had a good time--better time even as these girls were more awake. I go for the number of the cuter girl and she said she has a boyfriend (sure...). I told her don't worry about that and she laughed and said she couldn't. Oh well, there's millions of fish in Osaka for me--or as Abe says, GFTM - "Go Fuck Ten More".

All in all, I probably approached around 10 sets at the club.

I'm not very used to number closing girls at clubs because in Hawaii, I was only going after tourists. Also, this night was a live event so most people are locked on to looking at the stage and not what's going on.

I look forward to later this week when I will go to clubs that actually have a more dance-oriented environment because I love dance floor game.

Field Report: Danceteria Saza e (Part 1 of many)

My friend is a regular DJ at this club called Saza e in the northern part of Osaka called Umeda.

Two nights ago, it was hip-hop night. I'm not sure whether or not this was a special event but even on a Wednesday, this place was packed to the gills with some very, very fine Japanese girls.

I got there with my friend at a little past midnight ("fashionably late") and after entering, we took the elevator up to the top floor where the lounge is. There, we met A.F. and talked for a bit with some of the people up there. Cirque De Solei was in town so a bunch of them were chilling upstairs.

After talking for a bit, we made the descent downstairs where the real action was.

Throughout the night, I opened a bunch of sets both solo and with some wings from our "osaka crew" and it was a blast. I had the "Nimbus" and was totally in state.

I'm not one for fancy openers. What I used most of the night was a simple greeting in Japanese. Cavemaning was in full force and it worked extremely well. As I was walking to the dancefloor with one my friends, I saw these two short girls and one of them looked me in the eye and smiled and I knew it was on. :)

Although she was short, she had an ass that is rarely seen on this side of the Pacific. We had fun and danced for a while (with some very heavy kino) and I of course got her #. Earlier on, I got another chick's number too but once I saw her in better light, her number vanished from my phone.

For the next few times I go out, I'm going to avoid kiss-closing in clubs (which is a lot harder than it sounds!). One of my friends here who has a huge amount of experience told me that Japanese girls tend to get buyer's remorse a lot more often than other types of girls (since public displays of affection are not as common here).

My goal right now is to fill my stable with a bunch of girls to see every so often rather than one-night stands which was my only option back in Hawaii.

And I'm going back to Saza e tonight for some more fun. :)
