We run into situations everyday in which we allow potential approaches to pass us up because the logistics aren't perfectly placed for us to be in position to succeed....

These situations ALL COME DOWN TO THE ATTITUDE. If you hit the set with the frame of mind along the lines of "this is cumbersome/disrespectful/ridiculous" then it'll turn out that way every time. The way you act will show that it is ridiculous. You may do things like excuse yourself or apologize for interrupting her--these are things you would NOT do if you didn't harbor the opinion that what you were doing is bad.

For example, suppose a girl is in on the stairmaster in the gym with her headphones on. Here is how I hit this type of set: EXACTLY LIKE ANY OTHER SET. I would approach her, and likely would tap her because she can't hear me with her headphones on. Her natural response would be to take off her headphones to see what I want. I would proceed with the opener, and take it from there.

There's one caveat that enables me to run successful sets like this. I'm not afraid of the initial part of this interaction turning out awkward. I fully expect there to be some level of awkwardness in situations like this. Most people would anticipate a situation like this as being awkward, and therefore they are apprehensive about putting themselves into these sort of situations.

Whenever I face situations like this that involve an awkward approach, I think to myself...
Will she think this is awkward? Yes.
Will this awkwardness cause her to feel nervous and maybe a bit intimidated? Yes.
Is her being in a position of awkwardness and/or nervousness a situation I can capitalize on? YES. EVERY SINGLE TIME.

Mike,
thanks for that, mate.
i'd love to hear an expansion of your ideas here - how specifically would you "take advantage" of the initial awkwardness of an obviously awkward situation?

I exactly know what you are talking about. I almost never approach girls in this situations, when they have like headphones on etc, like it always feels really awkward. I heard this before but never did it....
Guess, I just have too jump over my shadow (we say here) and just do it.

thnx mike, this makes a lot of sense. i just did a post a few days ago about sarging at the gym. it makes sense to approach it like any other situation.

one question, what about if she is with a personal trainer?

Because of social pressures, norms. For the same reason you would probably have little success trying to pickup in the ladies room.

This post is really helpful. I had asked the exact question of how to approach a girl with headphones running on the treadmill. Now I just got to get over that intitial ackward hump.

You've missed the point of my question. Ignore social pressure. People are people.

I'm a bit skeptical... even if you open how do you go any further? She's on a treadmill! This seems like a low probability proposition.

who cares?

when i was in my coach training i was sent to do the hardest, most unlikely sets in the club. both tyler and jlaix would send me to do shit that i thought it was "impossible": couples making out(break them apart and get the girl), party girls going crazy in the dance floor(i was supposed to break them and pulled them away and try to get number and make out), huge sets of crazy party mode(guys and girls), dance floor chicks(pulled them out into rapport areas), big mixed sets, pulling girls away from drug dealers(girls around those guys looking to score drugs, i was supposed to neutralize guy and take girl away, btw, i banged one of those), amoging guys by sandwiching them between me and jlaix and banging the shit out of them, and more crazy shit etc....with time, you know what happened, my dance floor game became second to none, my bl got so tight it was crazy, my frame became 10 times stronger from doing all those things.
