Why RSD can be bad for some people... (longpost)

Let me start off saying that I love everything RSD intructors teach.  There are few people that have their shit together like these dudes, and I've learned lifetimes of lessons just from listening to them.  RSD itself is pretty awesome.

BUT, as with anything, there are some people that just don't "get it."

These people have been socially conditioned their whole lives and all of a sudden they're in a community where people actually know what they're talking about.
It can get extremely confusing for those people, and there is a lot of room for fuckery and MISINTERPRETATION of RSD concepts, even when the instructors make every effort to explain things in a clear and concise manner.

Some people are just gonna take it the wrong way.  I used to be one of those people, and here's what I learned from it.

The Biggest Problem any Noob will ever have is DEPENDENCY

[/b]Dependency is not a term I hear thrown around a lot in the RSD community, but it is a massive problem for people at low levels.  In fact, nearly all your problems are going to be caused by some form of Dependency, so making an effort to understand it will benefit you greatly.

So what exactly is Dependency?
Dependency is when everything in your life relies on external forces.  You need other people to treat you well so that you will feel good about yourself and don't feel judged.  You need friends or some type of social anchor so that you will feel "safe" in the world.  You need some force to tell you what to do with yourself because you do not trust yourself to take the proverbial Wheel.

Dependency can and will manifest itself in every single area of your life if you are not diligent about changing yourself.  It will control your thought patterns, it will dictate your emotions, and it will ultimately decide the direction of your life.  It will also influence how you think about pickup - and how you think about the things RSD teaches.

What are some real-life exapmples?
When I started out in the RSD community I didn't have a goddam clue what the fuck I was doing.  I would study Tyler's Youtube videos for hours, try to memorize all of it, and then go out and be too afraid to talk to a single girl.  Even when I started understanding more and more concepts, I would hit major plateus and I had no idea why, but I would still watch every single free tour video tyler posted and and every video of every other RSD instructor as well.  I thought it was helping me, I thought the more I studied RSD concepts, the better I would be at picking up babes.

There was just one problem - I was DEPENDENT on RSD to tell me what to do.

Every time I went out, I would compare myself to instructors.  If I didn't approach, I would imagine Tyler calling me a piece of shit and I would hate myself for the next few days.  Instead of motivating me, It just made me more apprehensive about fucking up and not living up to the standard that RSD set.

When I did approach, I would judge myself based on whether or not I was doing everything I possibly could to mack ho's.  If I didn't game at 100% every night, I would feel like I was being judged by the RSD community.

The point is that in every one of these cases, I was BASING how I felt on the things RSD teaches.

It's one thing to go out and try to apply RSD concepts to your interactions with people, it's another thing to NEED those teachings to dictate your emotions and actions.

How to Solve the Problem of Dependency

Wha
t I realized is this - the point RSD is trying to get across is that you DON'T need anyone or anything outside of yourself to be happy - INCLUDING RSD.  I know a lot of you dudes out there are looking for something to tell you what to do so that you can improve your life.

The solution is not needing those external influences in the first place - because you have ALL the answers to your own questions within yourself.

It's called thinking INDEPENDENTLY.

What is it that YOU want?

What is it that YOU enjoy doing?

What type of people do YOU want to fuck?

If you don't know what you want, try out different things until you find out what it is that you really love doing.  You don't need to watch 1 billion RSD videos to figure out the things you like.  You don't need tony robbins to tell you how to be motivated to work harder - because if you find something you love doing, you won't need motivation - you will just do it.

It is possible that you are NOT someone who wants to fuck thousands of girls - maybe you like quality rather than quantity.
Maybe you are someone who loves doing other things like Math or Psychology or Music or Art.  Different people enjoy different shit, not everyone is supposed to fuck like a rabbit as a Full-Time career (despite what Tyler might tell you).

Broaden your strokes

By expanding your focus to other things, you will find out what you enjoy.  Focus on Pickup if and when it suits you.  Start reading books about things that look interesting to you.  Don't just focus on one subject.  The RSD community is not the only community of people in the entire world that is cool and helpful  - you would be surprised at the different types of people and things you could learn from.

Ultimately, what you are aiming to do is become INDEPENDENT.  That means you feel happy with yourself regardless of what people say about you.  You don't need someone to tell you how to live your life - you base your decisions on what you feel like doing.  You want to realize that  no one is responsible for your well-being except for you.  You want to be able to NOT LIE to yourself to preserve comfortability.

If pickup is your shit - awesome.  If not, that's fine too.  Seek independence above all else.

Owen would never tell anyone to "fuck like a rabbit as a full time career"; in fact he would likely view such a person as pitiful

@ jeff - I'm sure he would, I was exaggerating

@ klaus - for sure I'll ad tit pics next time or something

@ curtis - I was basically a hardcore dark noob who wanted to shoot up schools and shit. I came into this really not having any sort of happiness or good vibes about me.  At first i went balls to the wall and started going out as much as I could but there comes a point where volume stopped doing anything for me so I kind of had to scale back and really take a look at what I wanted to do.  I'm not a 24/7 gamer anymore but I do hit up clubs on the weekend.  Mostly I write and study Psychology now.

Good post man this has been on my mind for a while. I was pretty normal coming into RSD and a lot of it fucked me up after the intial stage because I got too obsessed with the material and wasn't able to get out much. Since i'm living on campus now I meet new girls & people everyday and I'm actually getting value out of what I learned on RSD. I don't even watch the main page videos anymore. There are way too many videos every week and I'm still too newbie to handle that kind of information bombardment without getting brainfucked.

It's not necessarily the advice the instructors give as it is the lifestyle that you step into when you get into the game. The human brain can only juggle so many priorities, and when you consciously prioritize some thigns over others, you start getting all sorts of neglected responsibilities.

yeah but a lot of noobs are also looking for excuse to do NOTHING

just because pickup might not be your shit doesn't mean you can't learn anything from it

Either way you still have to go after what you want regardless of what it is

Doing nothing will get you nowhere and cause you to be exactly like everyone else

Plz don't be another Tyler clone. A world full of identical puzzle pieces doesn't make for a complete puzzle. do you, and learn to do it well.

If someone does this it doesn't mean that RSD is bad for them it just means that they are doing it wrong.
