RSD has helped me allot in the past. So I thought I'd share it here, too. Hope it helps.
------------------

"I'd like to be able to dance."

Barrel through my terrible sense of humor, amateuristic editing skills and wrap your brain around the following vid.

Recap:
Enjoyment of dance lives mostly in the recognition of patterns.

Visual patterns
(Recurring themes your brain recognizes from movement and sight)
Auditory patterns
(Recurring themes your brain recognizes from sounds and hearing)

And
The sweetspot in between the two

Audiovisual-patterns (Recurring themes recognized in both music and movement)

1. You pick an auditory pattern (A beat or a melody)
2. You pick a visual pattern (There's a gazillion but you can pick an example like symmetry and spatial from the video)
3. Time the movement to the sounds... easiest way of which is to reproduce (sing, beatbox or humm) and then time to own reproduction (Body has an easier time of it).
4. Adhere to the following rules.

Simple rules:
- The more suggestive your movement is of causing the sounds you hear (causal illusion), or vice-versa, the prettier.
- The more patterns you strike and stack at any given time in the dance, the prettier.
- The more these stacked patterns play in on (are timed and/or relate in any way to) one another, the prettier.

Note:
This guide is not meant to be all-encompassing explanation of dance, nor is it meant to disregard feeling. It simply states that trying to explain dance through feeling (which is the 'why' and not the 'how' of the matter) is pointless.
After all, to chizzle a statue one is taught the chizzle and not the image of the thing you're chizzling.

Now, practice practice practice!

Cheers

Holy crap. How the hell does one learn to do that craziness with the hands at the end? That was tight.

my tip is once you get past those basics, work on being more 3dimensional by adding diversity of those patterns...

this is what draws girls in, and, beautifully enough, makes you a much better lay.

....great vid, funny as fuck... +1 for low quality equipment, for being a broke motherfucker, and for doing icy shit

 @ caveman_ugh,
It looks bizzarly complex but when you get down to it... you're just stacking simple stuff (patterns for the brain to recognize)

- Bullet time-pattern = Sudden slowing down and speeding up of movement (Anyone who's every seen the matrix'll spot it)
- Spatial circle patterns = Allot of cirkels traced with fingers, wrists, elbows and even shoulders.
- Grab-patterns = At the end of most circle-patterns you can see the grabbing movements
- Momentum patterns = Illusion of centripital force (Basically i make it look like I'm holding a circle-moving object in check)
- Wave-patterns = Hand-movements (in this case) that remind one of ribbons blowing in the wind/waves.

And a fuckload of symmetry.

You start out practicing one, and add another one while maintaining the old.
You keep doing that, and eventually you get intricate (it's your body that's learning actually... and later on stuff just happens as your subconcious takes over.

Glad you guys enjoy it. There'll be a from-scratch example of stacking coming out in the near future to make it a little more accessable.
Cheers

"If you have any questions fuck you" hahahahaha nice.

For me, I just repeat a lot of simple movements and try to sync my body to the music. It's as simple as that... What I find to be most important is the head and the feet. The head for me is like, what keeps my body in sync... IT's like my internal "beat", the feet are what makes hands and torso follow... Anyway, that's me.

Start reproducing the music, mate. You can do it in your head.
Also try to imagine yourself causing to sounds... strangely enough it increases the accuracy of your timing.

That said, as far as girls and clubs are concerned, it's all about the face (does it show enjoyment and/or intesnity, do you look angrier when the music gets angry... do you look euphoric when the music takes a turn for the good. Stuff like that)
That's what I've found anyhow... seen the best moves fail due to lack of expression, then saw the simplest ones kill due to attitude.

Good luck
