I consider myself at least average intelligence. I got good grades at a good high school, obviously this doesn't make me "smart", but it at least makes me feel I'm not completely "dumb" either.

Yet I can not drive a damn car.

I'm fine on backroads and small towns, but a complete wreck with busy intersections, multiple lanes and am a terrible parker. I legit can not back a car back into a spot, which is the reason I failed my last test, as it is required. I have passed the permit (at 16) and written test twice (had to take twice due to first one expiring)

I am a nervous wreck driving and actually hate it. Anyone else here with a similar experience that you've overcome? I've taken lessons with instructors and can back the car up when with them, but not on my own.

It's very crushing to not be something even the elderly can do...

Live in NYC where 70% don't have a driver's license. Problem solved.

Why don't you just practice and work to conquer your fear?

You must focus on driving, only DRIVING. Try to avoid your thoughts telling you "youuuu will crush for sure, you are scared etc" Be relaxed. I think you are making HUGE problem around something EASY. BE A MAN !

NO big deal... I'm kinda similar, never super confident in car but it was fine for the 2 years I had one.. Nowadays I live downtown so I just sold my car 2 years ago. I haven't looked back...
