I stumbled across Holosync / Hemisync / LifeFlow etc and got curious. Some people testify to it's effectiveness, but it's hard to tell what comes from the actual tapes and what's just placebo. Also, you can't remove the fact that the people that are doing it properly are spending something like 40 minutes per day by themselves. What effect would 40 minutes of meditation do for you, over the course of ten years? (Going through the Holosync tapes takes approximatively 7-10 years from what I've read..... It's a good thing they're so cheap.)

So what actual scientific evidence is there that an effect exists?

Browsing pubmed, I didn't find that much.

"We did not find support for steady-state entrainment of the scalp-recorded EEG while listening to 7-Hz binaural beats. Although our data indicated increased depression and poorer immediate recall after listening to binaural beats, larger studies are needed to confirm these findings."

Only two minute duration in this one but still; "No significant differences were found in vigilance or cortical frequency power during binaural beat stimulation compared to a white noise control period. Furthermore, no significant relationships were detected between the above and the Big Five personality traits. This suggests a short presentation of steady state binaural beats are not sufficient to alter vigilance or entrain cortical frequencies at the two bands examined and that certain personality traits were not more susceptible than others."

"In this experiment, the effects of the beta and theta binaural beat on human blood pressure and pulse were studied. Using headphones, three sounds were played for 7 minutes each to 12 participants: the control,- the sound of a babbling brook (the background sound to the two binaural beats), the beta binaural beat (20 Hz), and the theta binaural beat (7 Hz). Blood pressure and pulse were recorded before and after each sound was played. Each participant was given 2 minutes in-between each sound. The results showed that the control and the two binaural beats did not affect the 12 participant's blood pressure or pulse (p > 0.05)."

Is there any scientific evidence to support the claims all of these products are making?

Not really interested in testimonials; there are a bunch of other threads that deal with that.

Ya... I'll stick to regular meditation that comes from non profit sources for now. Those claims that you somehow can attain monk level meditation with their technology seems a bit too good to be true

Let`s see:

- "Meditation on steroids."

- "Meditate like a Zen monk literally at the touch of a button."

- "The lazy man`s way to meditate."

There`s a sucker born every minute and I`m sure the producer of this product is laughing all the way to the bank. Hook, line and sinker.

The longer you listen, the sweeter the pitch.
