Can't wait till I get mine. 16 years to get a black belt is ridiculous. It only took him 2 years to get his black belt in tae kwon do.
How many Jiu Jitsu Black belts are there in the world right now?
Pretty good achievement, but its not earth shaking
Here's how to do it :)

Some of that article is misleading.
Also doing what you find difficult over and over and over again.
Taking personal or private lessons, sparring inbetween class hours. So that means you're training 6hrs a week on average and another 12hrs for the rest (sparring). The article says you must learn the basics before sparring???
Nope getting thrown in with the biggies (blue, purple and black belts) and trying to not get tapped out, even though you will countless times.
You don't just become a black belt in 10 years with 3 days a week training, you have to opt in for illness / injuries / gym closures / other ventures to your time too.

I think generally speaking its a pretty difficult task and most people will never attain a black belt.
How long did George Leonard take to get his Aikido Blackbelt? The guy wrote Mastery based on it.

Keeps bringing you back to REALITY!!
Love it!

lol are you serious man? posting a step by step guide to getting a black belt? You have to factor in a ton of things man, it's not easy, it's possible but not easy as the guide lays it out. It's a serious achievement. Good for him, Jiu Jitsu is no joke and especially getting a black belt when you have so many other commitments. I've tried jiu jitsu and it's crazy how good guys at brown-black belt level are.
Good for you Joe Rogan! love his podcast too!

Jiu-jitsu takes FOREVER to get a blackbelt. There are SO MANY different things to learn. I was in it for a year. Miss it, but too time consuming for my goals.

It took him 16 years to get his blackbelt which is true dedication and he also talks about how martial art and jiu jitsu constantly bring you back to reality on a daily basis, kind of like that speech from Tyler when he talks about how lazy people rationalize and how when your being successful you constantly have to face reality head on for what it really is.
