After hearing a lot of good things about it as well as learning a lot from The Art of War, I decided to start reading this.

Now, i'm half way threw the book and I have NO IDEA why people say it is such a great book.

All I see are that his points are very obvious and he talks a lot about how to weild a sword.

Anyone else read this book and can tell me why it is a good read? I'm not getting it.

read in between the lines, there's a lot of core eastern philosophy within that book. It's pretty dated so it's probably stuff you've heard before through movies/other texts etc. so it's obviously not going to be very revolutionary for you. The idea that "if you know the way, you will see it in all things" is amazingly profound. To put it into perspective, if you work hard at something like a sport you will know what it takes, how much effort is required, how much dedication is needed to be the best, and you can see that in all other things as well. To understand greatness, you have to achieve it first or at least work toward it.

Haha, it's so funny when people recommend this book and forget to tell that it's 90% sword techniques and 10% philosophy.

It's basically a watered down version of Tao Te Ching, read that instead.

Oh and I hope you liked the Art of War, it's always nice to know 56 versions of terrain and what not to do when it snows.

That list of quotes from the book is better than the book itself.

The Art of War applies to Life and, because of that, it applies to PU.

For example:

"If you know your enemies and know yourself, you will not be imperiled in a hundred battles. If you just know yourself, your adds are 50/50. If you do not know your enemies nor yourself, you will be imperiled in every single battle." <-- So true after I've gotten to this level of game. Funny how, thew game, I FIRST learned more about myself and who I am and, after I learned more about myself, I was able to understand MORE about girls.

"All warfare is based on deception. Hence, when we are able to attack, we must seem unable; when using our forces, we must appear inactive; when we are near, we must make the enemy believe we are far away; when far away, we must make him believe we are near." <-- Not true in PU but true in business.

I see it as no practical use in the mordern world unless you practice Kendo.

Although there are a few gems about Attitude / Spirit which is useful in some chapters. But apart from the awesomeness of a badass like Mushashi it is relatively a inapplicable and confusing read.
