Just finished wathcing Jeffy's vblog about one of his students moving to Vegas and finding massive success. For a long time I considered moving to the city myself, my only fear was that the economy was in the shitter so I don't know if I'd be able to find work. Anyone who is living there now have any advice for someone about to move there? How does one get involved in the promoting or nightclub industry? How cheap is living, where do I want to live? Any other advice about Las Vegas in general? I've been there a few times and love it, but I've noly just stayed in hotels and partied. I'm hoping some locals or some experts can share advice on how to:
a) find a good place to live
b) find a good job (preferably in the nightlucb industry)

I'm not a Vegas expert, but I've been thinking of moving there myself (from LA), and this is what I've gleaned so far:

~ Economy is not great, but it's very industry dependent...
tech/IT: good (zappos is based there)
real estate: noooooo....the horror!
entertainment/nightlife: I imagine it's good, as Vegas is all tourist-based. Just my guess tho.

~ Price of Living is very cheap. Thanks to the housing bust which hit Vegas hard, there is a glut of rentals avail. I've seen good places for $300 to $500/mo. Also no state income-tax, and a very business-friendly state.

~ Where to live: I was looking into the cities/neigbohoods of "Paradise" and "Winchester", just east of the strip. I think you want to be a cheap taxi ride away from the casinos and clubs.

I live next to UNLV and the 2bed room apartment is $500. Rent here is soooo god damn cheap compared to Colorado.

You can work as a promoter really easily. They post promoter ads on craigslist all the time.

Also, as a local, you can go out Mon-Thur for free w/o paying cover. Food is cheap too if you go to the right places. Just dont buy drinks at the club.

 @ MidnightRambler

Interesting take. Looks pretty cheap. My expenses aren't high so I've got no issue living somewhere close by as long I got a place for dece quality food, a gym, and is not too far from the strip.

@ SirKonstantine

Awesome point about cragislist, there is promoting jobs galore on there! if you're willing to work hard and hustle I'm sure you could make $2,000 to $4,000 a month easy. Any idea what being a promoter in Vegas actually involves? I'm from a small ass town in Canada and don't really know much. What are you currently doing down there for work? How is it living there?

Thanks for the suggestions so far guys!

I use to live in Las Vegas and I gotta say that the Green Valley area is a good area. Also, Henderson is a good area as well, but its about a 20 min drive from the strip.

Mostly all the cheap apts close by the strip are mostly crappy apts and lots of drug dealing going on in those areas.

I would try the neighborhoods of Spring Valley, Green Valley, Seven Hills, Summerlin and most of Henderson (the City just South of Las Vegas) are good places to live.

As far as jobs goes, you can find nightclub promotor jobs on craigslist. You can also try the Nevada Job Connect office on Maryland Parkway and East Sahara. They have job postings on there as well.

You can also try the Bally's Employment Center at the corner of Las Vegas Blvd and Flamingo.

If you need more info, just let me know.

Thanks,

From my understanding, you'll go out in the daytime and talk to people. You let them know about the club that you represent and give them some type of flyer I'd assume. They go to the club that night and have that flyer and you'll get commission for their bottle sales. It's hustling. My friend used to do it.

Awesome information here. I've hustled door to door sales as a job before so I assume club promoting would be something similar, but I have little to no idea how it really works. I'm sure it's not overly complicated as a lot of people seem to get into it right out of college.

Overall I want to end up in a decent apartment/condo. Doesn't need to be very big, just somewhere to fit some basic shit. I'll want a job that covers basic expenses and allows me to go out pretty consistently. Judging by what I've read about low rent and promoter jobs it seems pretty attainable. The more information the better here!

Just curious if anyone has experience or is knowledgeable about LA/Hollywood promoting vs. Vegas promoting?

In Hollywood promoting seems hyper-competitive and really difficult to break out of the bottom rung. I imagine Vegas isn't that bad but how tough is it to rise up the ranks?

HEY THE ECONOMY IS NEVER GREAT.

There is always some type of excuse.  Just go there. You'll thank me for the experience
if you're clever you'll probably be rich by this time next year.

I live in the U.K., would that make moving to vegas extra hard due to visa complications?
