Like have you seen "American Psycho" movie? that kind of lifestyle , i'm guessing he wins (theoretically) like 100k-120k a year , is that considered "rich"? In case you havent seen the movie he wears the nicest suits , drives a mercedes(i think) , lives in a pretty cool apartment in the most expensive area of NY, etc..

I think you have a bigger challenge than making money if you thought anything in American Psycho was worth emulating. It was a satirical look at the "greed is good" mentality of the 80's. Everyone in the movie are soulless creatures disconnected from reality. The exaggerated display of their opulent lifestyle with its ridiculous material wealth, restaurant masturbation, business card fetishisation, illegal drugs, etc. are a send up of the miserable shits in the 80's who pioneered the "fuck you got mine" attitude (see: many investment bankers and rich "conservatives") that still rots our economy.
Patrick Bateman himself is an exaggerated caricacture of that persona. He's so obsessed with consumption (more is never enough) that anyone who he perceives as better than him-he kills. Bateman is so extreme and bloodthirsty to make that much more of a statement about how terrible the yuppie culture had become.
I think you should look elsewhere for examples of how you want to live your life. You seemed to miss the point of American Psycho.

Condensed version: working solely to get rich, especially based off of viewing American Psycho, may not be a good idea.

Have you read The 4 Hour Work Week by Timothy Ferriss?
Not everyone of course is going to be able to work just four hours per week, but he has very solid ideas on how to live on a reduced budget. The idea with it is to be rich in time, not in money.

Yeah it's really important to like what you do and/or work fewer hours. You'd probably need 250k or more to live how you see in the movies, but that's a shitload of work and there aren't a lot of non-soul-crushing jobs that pay that.
Which was also sort of the point of the book and the movie. That lifestyle does rob your soul. I'm a litigation attorney in the heartland - a city just large enough for a good NBA team and not much else. I wear tailored suits, drive a BMW, enjoy quality liquor and similarly situated friends, while I live in a McMansion and have a rent house. And guess what? I'd rather sell it all, open a beer shack on a beach and be left the fuck alone because this lifestyle is a soul raping grind that will leave me dead or in a crazy house by the time I'm 50. Find something you love, do it well, and the money will come. "Do something you love and the money will come.." advice. Because 80% of people who do what they love arn't rich. But hopefully they're happy.
If I could go back in time I would major in computer science and do some classes in Ecomomics and philosophy because I love that shit. Then I would try to kick ass like two-step. Either that or engineering but I'm not smart enough.
I'm in the mining industry (In Australia) earning close to 100k a year. It's not rich but I'm doing well enough for my age. The trade off is the fly in fly out, I work for one week then have a week off. Some people hate it, but I love it.
