Like have you seen "American Psycho" movie? that kind of lifestyle , i'm guessing he wins (theoretically) like 100k-120k a year , is that considered "rich"? In case you havent seen the movie he wears the nicest suits , drives a mercedes(i think)  , lives in a pretty cool apartment in the most expensive area of NY, etc..

Thanks for responding

100k per year is not rich. Dont get me wrong it's good money but it's not rich by any stretch of the imagination.

Forget about money for a second-what do you want to do with your life?

Believe me, you don't want to trade all the hours in your life for some job you do just to provide you with enough money to live in the city and have a nice house. Your life will quickly become a long, slow boring week followed by a weekend of binge drinking (cos that's the only free time you will have). Rinse and repeat for 50 years, retire when you are too old to enjoy your time off and then die.

The only commodity you have in this life is time. Use yours wisely. I'd recommend setting up your own business. Read Tim Ferris's 4 hour work week and check out AppSumo's Neville Medhora on YouTube. Also read the "how to set up your 1million dollar business this weekend" (paraphrasing) by Noah Kagen on Tim Ferris's blog.

You can either trade your time for money or you can create something of value that people pay for without your time being used up.

The kind of lifestyle that you're talking about takes a lot of money. That character is an investment banker which is a very high paying job with huge bonus money. That kind of job was a lot bigger than it is today after the financial crisis.

100k per year is great money. Are you rich? No you wouldn't be considered rich especially if you live like the average American. The type of lifestyle that you describe would eat up 100k very fast. I don't think you could make it especially with a Mercedes and eating out at those nice restaurants.

A very nice apartment in MOST cities in the downtown area. This would be excluding large cities like Chicago, NYC, SF, and LA because these cities have high real estate markets. You're looking at about a rent of $2000 a month. That's probably starting. That's on the lower end for a downtown.

Some things to understand though are that if you were able to find a place like that you'd be out on your own because people your age wouldn't be able to afford those areas.

It's not easy to obtain a lifestyle like that.

I think 100k a year is pretty damn good if you can work 20 hours a week on average (or less, unless you want to work more). IMO at least. I guess new york would be more expensive but I live downtown montreal and I can't complain evne if I made half that last year. I was able to save a lot of money and drink 5 nights a week, train MMA, weight lifting gym, improv classes, total of 1-2 months in vegas & miami on vacation...

Yeah it's really important to like what you do and/or work fewer hours. You'd probably need 250k or more to live how you see in the movies, but that's a shitload of work and there aren't a lot of non-soul-crushing jobs that pay that.
