My work are looking to cut their staff numbers and offering plenty of cash to anyone that volunteers to go, so if I volunteer it it would mean I could afford to spend a year travelling.

But my question for anyone thats actually spent a year travelling is what was it really like? Was it really that good? Did you get bored or was it a fun experience? Is it all overrated hype or actually a great experience and adventure?

It feels like a once in a lifetime opportunity to fuck off and see the world and have some fun and adventures, and it should be a great opportunity to hook up with girls that are traveliing too, but it would mean giving up a really cool job which I love, and one year isn't that long really, so I'd be back and unemployed before I know it. So I'm trying to work out if it's really worth it.

Whats your job?

Jobs come and go homie, experiences and memories last forever. When you're an old man in your rocking chair you think you'll remember that job as the first thing on your mind? no you'll be thinking about the ass you tapped travelling and all the lols you had.

I've just done ten months of travelling, going back out in a week for another 5+ months

What sort of thing do you want to know?

Im sure I can get it organised and sort out the logistics, but what I wanna know is what the experience is actually like? Are the people you meet cool, is the culture shock not too extreem, do you get bored or always find stuff to do, does it become a headache sorting out forward travel and accomodation when you're on the road, has it been good for meeting girls, do you find a lot of other travelers wana hang out and do stuff or do you find yourself on your own a lot, do you feel you've changed much, any bad stuff about it? etc....sorry loads of questions there lol, really just after any thoughts really on what its been like and how it was different to what you expected?

I spent 6 months traveling to 26 different countries so I have some insight here that most people dont.

You won't get bored as long as you keep moving

I rented an apartment for a month on the beach in Spain in order to have sex with lots of women, I got bored there during the daytime after awhile even though I was taking spanish classes. Eventually I found some hash and smoked that during the day on my rooftop or the beach to alleviate boredom.

You can have sex in Hotels/Hostels just as easy as renting an apartment somewhere though, I had a quick 30 minutes introduction to orgasm came inside a hostel on a couch in the middle of the common area, people were walking in like WTF and running off

The people you meet tend to be pretty awesome and friendly, you meet some people, meet people they know, meet people those people know, and so on, and then you have a place to crash in dozens of countries pretty quickly.

I get a sort of depression/culture shock for a few days whenever I go somewhere new. It sucks, but it passes.

Boredom becomes almost non-existant. When you've been on 24 hour bus rides or plane rides, you learn to just accept it. Makes a 3 hour train ride no problem at all. But when you're already somewhere, there's always stuff you can do. Worst case scenario where you're in a small town and everything is shut, you'll still have travellers in your hostel/guesthouse to meet.

Accomodation wise, I just rock up to a city and then figure it out from there. I usually just choose the first acceptable place on the first day, so I can get my bearings. Then if it sucks, just go somewhere else. I feel like I became more resourceful, either sorting things out myself or finding people who can help me.

When you're travelling, sex just kind of falls in your lap. You have to talk to people still, but you don't have to put much effort in. Just being chill, social, and not needy is enough. The locals will want to fuck you as you're exotic, and the travellers will want to fuck you because that's what travellers do. If you throw game in to the mix you can probably fuck a crazy amount of girls.

I travelled on my own so I joined groups here and there to do treks and things, other times went my own way. Totally up to you what you do. Some people go on their own, meet a cool group early on and go with them for the rest of their trip.

Only downside of travelling for me is that I kinda fucked it up initially, wasn't very social as I was quite far out of my comfort zone, so went in my head a bit. I should have made a lot more effort finding people to talk to, to keep my base level of socialness higher. It will sound corny but just remember everyone you see is a potentially awesome friend, or someone with useful connections for something else. Use your judgement but there isn't really much reason to be not talking to anyone at a given time

I've been all over the world and don't have 1 particular place that I call home. I work from the Internet, and stay in different cities for 3 months at a time. This is how I roll, and yes you do get bored, but I like being bored. When I'm bored, it means it's time to recharge my batteries, chill, take care of my health/fitness, and mastermind my next steps. Love being bored.

Yeah that was my thinking too, tho wanna make sure I’m not making the thing into more than it is and come back wishing I hadn’t thrown everything away to go and do it. I doubt I’ll feel like that tho.

Sounds fuckin awesome lol. I might steal the Spain idea, it would make a good break from all the hostels and travelling to be based by the beach for a month.

Cheers for that, yeah that’s pretty much how I thought it would be, the idea of deciding not doing this is starting to seem much weirder than the idea of actually doing it!

I know what you mean, it’s great just to chill and recharge your batteries. I guess I should expect a mix of doing stuff and chilling, and that should help avoid getting too headfucked with being away all the time.
