Excellent videos from the author of 'Fooled by Randomness' and the 'Black Swan.' Taleb's the guy that econ/finance doctorates want to be. Too bad so many rely on hastily-formed assumptions rather than taking the time, and making the intellectual effort, to learn from men like this.

A good quote from him: "Debt is nearly always dangerous. Christianity early on did not like debt. Islam banned debt.  The Romans had problems with debt. A lot of wars were caused by debt. So debt was not necessarily a good thing. You say in moderation. But we don't know what moderation is."

[Lil' Wayne:]
Is that really a question
Do you really have that written down in your notepad
You should be ashamed of yourself
You smell me girl
I smell like money
See, thats what they don't understand (Tell 'em a god damn thang)
To me it was always get money or die
I come up under Birdman the Number One Stunner
You know what I mean I'm stunner junior thats all I know thats all I ever knew
Get money or get nothing you know what I'm saying
And I feel that way

Whichever side you are on...one thing:
Try to understand the other side. Try to find quality articles that survive checking them for facts that make a good moderate argument for the other side. Find out what their actual positions are, from the best of them, not from the most extreme that you can most easily dismiss and laugh about. Also check everything that agrees with you for accuracy. Question especially those things that make you want to scream "YES! FINALLY SOMEONE GETS IT". Try to understand how an intelligent sane well informed person can come to a conclusion opposite of your own.
Also many here have truly stellar social skills. Use them to once in a while talk to people that are very different than you. I daresay, almost everything you know about the rich/poor/famous/homeless/mentally ill or any people in life situations that are very different than your own is wrong. I once had a conversation with a homeless drunk (had to. He had fallen on his head and I had to wait with him for the ambulance) and it turned out that plain everything I knew about these people was wrong.

1.There's something wrong with the Math:
I've never heard of a single person saying that they're either part of the 99% or the 1%. It's always "they" and "they".
It's probably more like 75% that have "nothing", 1% that have "everything"... and the 24% that have "something" but they're not quite sure if they have "everything" or "nothing".

2. I don't undestand why it's Occupy Wall Street and not Occupy Washington: if you want to change the way this system works, get into politics and try to change the system. (You can try, good luck with that)

3. The lack of empathy going on is really disturbing...I agree that in a capitalist society each man is on its own and if you want something you go and get it. But EVERYONE should have the same opportunities to get a bigger piece of the cake (if they want to). Not everyone has the opportunity to get something more out of their lives, and they should be granted a minimum "something".

Capitalism is a good system. We do not currently have capitalism.

As Milton Friedman explains it, the more important part of capitalism is that companies who take losses GO OUT OF BUSINESS. The federal reserve has raped many market participants and every single holder of dollars in the world to prevent this from happening.

He shoots, he scores! Yes, we're currently a semi-capitalist society which Nassem Taleb talks about in one of the previous videos. In a real capitalist society, the banks would have gone out of business, and there would be no million dollar bonuses.

They say there's gonna be massive inflation(due to continuous printing of money to rescue the economy short term)within the next 180 days and the bursting of govt debt and dollar bubbles. In the book aftershock, the authors predicted the recent years crashes and when the last two bubbles pop, it's tribulation time. Where there still wealth, but there would be massive layoffs and the psychological pressure will be so intense some employees who've been laid off will kill their bosses haha

Anyway one advice they give is for you to buy gold so you still have tangible real value when the dollar crashes. Savers will lose and the govt wouldn't be able to fund most benefits no matter what the people do (occupy all streets) because the money won't be there.

Quite cataclysmic, it's 2012 next MONTH man.

When america falls, the world will follow.

Check the book out, its very controversial.
