THE FORUMS
good post
Sounds like you wrote this post more for yourself than for the board in general.
Yes. I think the reason so many people become fanboys of this and other things is b/c they have a need for belonging, need for a secular religion.
It's understandable that some people would follow some of this stuff blindly, just because what these guys say most of the time is pretty true and solid advice. HOWEVER, I do agree. Think for yourelf, some things may not apply to you, or should be modified to fit your PERSONAL needs.

I do agree that people should think for themselves rather than blindly follow someone...BUT for a lot of guys that means a lot of chodeliness and not pushing themselves.
Me personally I've kind of found Tyler to be right....about like literally almost everything lol. Now that doesn't mean that I do everything like him, I don't eat exactly like him, he was trying to cut weight and I'm trying to put on some muscle and continue with soccer athletism just for an example.
But my point is that for a lot of guys on here they'd probably be a helluvalot better off trying to copy Tyler exactly than to continue the way they're living or to try and forge their own path ahead, which they'd likely be too lazy to carry out on their own (I know that I would as I am right now).
You do need to give Tyler credit for how hard he freakin works, and how perceptive he is on pickup and life as a whole. I think that a lot of guys would be better off taking his word as dogma, and then being open-minded figuring it out themselves from there.
At the risk of incoherence and rambling, I'll delve into a personal example. I was pretty set on going to school for Contemplative Psychology at Naropa University next year, and the program is basically psych with a huge amount of meditation and buddhism overtones.
And then I read Tyler's postings in a certain thread where he was saying that the Bagahvad Gita lays out two paths: contemplation and action. But what they don't tell you (but what Tyler does) is that for the vast majority of young men, the correct path is action. And when a young man goes down the road of contemplation he gets very indignant and judgmental and up his own ass with his freaking beliefs, but the guys that he's seen that are most blissful are the ones that have taken the path of action.
And you know what? I am no longer planning on participating in this program but rather am starting a job with an internet start up company and plan to open 40 sets/week for the next year until my 25th birthday. It was literally these posts that brought these things to my attention, I thought about, and he was freakin right...just like he always is.
Again, you were warned that this might have been rambling, but my point is that Tyler has put in massive amounts of hard work figuring this shit out and its probably better to listen too much then not enough.
And Owen if you're reading this, I thank you :)

Seriously guys.
Even worse, on Mark's Daily Apple there's scores of people adovcating eating more and more fat JUST to satisfy the feeling of hunger. One dude with heaps of posts was advising someone to eat (drink?) 4 tablespoons of olive oil like he did, just to sate hunger. I understand good fats and all, but that's ridiculous and that WILL be harmful in the long run.

How is that going to be harmful in the long run exactly?
I don't see a problem relying on advice of guys 1) you trust 2) have researched the hell out of it. That's not to say I'd take tylers word for it, but it would make me research it to see where he's coming from. Rather than ignore obvious bullshit passed off as fact, like what I quoted ;)

How can something here on RSD brainwash people in a bad way?? Can you give some examples? All I keep hearing from instructors is GO OUT GO OUT GO OUT GO OUT. Meditate which is really good.
Seriously guys.
So many newbies coming here and going on about green tea and dark chocolate (for example) because "Tyler said it." Think for yourselves! That's what this post is mostly about actually, not girls, but to do with the views of a lotof people around here in health and nutrition.
Just because you hear it here, doesn't make it gospel. Same goes for stuff like paleo diets/the Primal Blueprint. There's some good things to take away from them, but it's not gospel. It's as if "community" guys (like on this site) hear something that goes against conventional wisdom and decide that it must be true, simply because it goes against coventional wisdom and seems to make sense. They listen to a few "scientific studies" put out by whomever and their supporters, and thumb their noses at the vast amount of studies done by "conventional wisdom", that's VERY selective hearing (there's a better term for it but I can't think of it right now. FUCK.)

Or even better, just suck it up and lose some weight.
Finally, I want to clarify this isn't really an attack of anybody, and I enjoy reading paleo type diet stuff, and there IS stuff to be taken away from it that is good, but I', just saying you should make sure you always think for yourself. You can be socially conditioned by accident by the RSD community in a BAD way, just like conventional society can brainwash you in a BAD way.

Thinking for yourself is awesome. But to test shit out to see if it works for YOU is essential too. I mean theres loads of information about all kinds of shit out there. Test things out, if they dont work for you then move forward. You have to find the balance.
