completely agree. I'm one of the guys who's always saying never let someone put their hands on you in a club, don't be a bitch, all men should know how to protect themselves etc. However, I'll be the first one to say always avoid confrontation in the streets whenever possible. And 5 guys in a dark alley late at night in a Soviet country? Whatever you gotta do short of sucking the guy's dick to get out of the situation is fine. I honestly don't know what I would have done and I don't think showing weakness may have been the smartest thing to do but that's just monday morning quarterbacking. Sometimes people push you until they see weakness and then pounce. Probably best to just push his hand away and walk away quickly or run if you see they're gonna come at you harrd.
As for the OP: if it was a club in the u.s., sorry, but violence may not always be the answer but neither is letting someone punch you in the fucking face. You shoulda hit back somehow unless he had 10 guys. But even then, if there's adequate security, i say beat his ass anyway.

I laugh at you guys who say you would've taken on 5 guys on a dark street in a foreign country...come on are you serious? Hell even if you won and beat the guys to a pulp, who knows what the local government would do to you being a foreigner (prison time in a former Eastern Block country...NO thank you!). If you have no choice but to fight sure, but if you can get out of it any other way, you'd be an idiot to escalate against these odds. You've seen too many Van Damme flicks.

2 nights ago i also got punched in the face in Riga, Latvia.
I was just walking to my hostel through a darker street and there were 5 drunk guys. I didn´t looked at them i didn´t said anything.
One guy grabs me by the throat...i started backing of and say hi in latvian.
Bam. punch in the face. Lips is fucked up.
Fortunately him friends held him from punching me more.
So i escaped with just 1 punch and without having anything stolen.

It's not too common that it actually happens... I've been going out to club/bars for 5+ years, and been actually punched only once. Haven't been slapped though...
Lot of guys will bluff, but only the real crazy or frustated one actually will swing. In my case, it was a Navy dude in San Diego and I can understand the frustration on his part. I was looking for stragglers on the street after closing time, saw two girls with two dudes. Went in started flirting w/ the girls I was groping them by telling them I'm a doctor and I'm giving them a body exam. Then I put my arms around both of them, and started walking away. One guy (drunk as fuck) chased us down and tried to start shit. I kept it pretty calm until he really pushed my buttons then I kinda provoked him, and he actually swung. I just stood there and looked at him like you seriously swing you dumbass and kinda left. HAHA
I try to follow this one rule my friend told me, because I try to take girl from guys sometimes and that makes some guys angry. Don't acknowledge or look at the guy trying to start UNLESS the girl is acknowledging it. He always says, you are out to get girls not get in a drama with guys.

My social calibration is good and my intelligence is above good. That does not mean that I am stupid enough to put myself in jeopardy. Here is what happen, i got into the club, and was already unstiffed, so my usual stuff is just go with the music and have fun. My friends were dancing, so I just got up on a sofa, and danced. Then a guy was like get the fuck down, started swearing like this is his fucking chair, he's sitting on it. Now, I got down, the guy keeps on swearing. I am like you don't have to swear, calmly said. Then out of nowhere, I feel my face getting swollen and a cold liquid pouring down my nose. Now, tell me what did I do wrong? I don't even know. My friends were talking to the guy, and he was fucking aggressive to one of the girls in the group. If, I was dancing with his girl, and got a straight right, I would understand, but in this case, just for having fun and dancing normally on chair. Does that make sense? bUT HERE IS THE THING, I am actually laughing at it. Its funny, because it is. It just shows how many frustrated people are out there, and consuming endless amount of alcohol to get the confidence.
And no, I do not send signals like I am fucking scared blah blah blah. All that is bullshit. When I walk in the club, I walk like I own the place, like all of you. I smile, I dance, I get serious when the time comes, but most of the time, I am having an absolute blast to say the least.

I always seem to get myself into situations like this as well. Last time this happened was a few weeks ago when i was in this old guys bar and there was like 2 chicks in the whole place so i said fuck it and went after her was dancing with her and her sister comes over and says dont fucking dance with her back off so i just laughed it off and kept dancing and her sister was in a rage so were gridning on each other as some Snoop Dogg comes on I WANNA MAKE YOU SWEAT and my hard on was basically penetrating the chicks vagina as the whole place looked on and her brother comes over and is shouting in my ear telling me to fuck off cos his sister dont associate with guys like me but i keep dancing and say fuck it he swings at me and the bar staff drag him and his sister out of the bar all the while i keep dancing with my massive hard on to Snoop Dogg.
