Guys, you all need to watch this documentary called "Killer Stress" by National Geographic.  It's about 50 minutes long and available to stream on Netflix.  But I will also link the youtube version at the bottom of the post.  Someone uploaded it for educational purposes for their school, and RSD is all about learning, so I assume it's cool copyright-wise.

Cliff's notes:

-Scientist studies baboons for 20+ years studying their social habits
-They have a social hierarchy just like humans do
-The most dominant baboons have first dibs on food and chicks... they get laid whenever they want
-The subordinate baboons of course are relegated to the "leftovers" and do not get laid whenever they want
-Blood samples are taken from dominant and subordinate baboons
-Dominant baboons have very low levels of stress hormones
-Subordinate baboons have very HIGH levels of stress hormones
-The dominant baboons live longer.... why?
-Being under stress literally breaks down your DNA... when you feel like a beta, your "telomeres" at the end of your DNA strands whither away, harming you AND your genes!
-The dominant baboons have wide open arteries whereas the beta ones are all closed up and tight
-Brain scans are done of dominant and subordinate baboons
-Dominant baboon have very active pleasure centers of the brain... they light up bright when stimulated... lot's of dopamine receptors
-Subordinate baboons have very dull pleasure centers... do not light up bright... few dopamine receptors
-Successes do not register as strong a pleasure response in the brain of the betas, meaning dominant baboons are MORE motivated to take chances to acquire success than subordinate ones are
-Woman scientist is shown and she believes that stress hormones affect weight distribution
-Subordinate (beta) baboons are FAT AS FUCK... because of stress hormones, they put on more fat around the abdomen...they show a FAT-ASS betamale baboon... I laughed so hard
-The connection is made to humans...subordinate humans experience stress due to their beta social status
-The stress causes ulcers, heart disease, withers your DNA, kills off brain cells, suppresses your pleasure centers, and yes, causes you to put on fat around the mid-section

Conclusion for PU purposes:

-This documentary explains why being "unreactive" is so attractive.  If you are living a life where you have first dibs on women and food, then why would you react?  You wouldn't.  No stress whatsoever.  If you are living a life where getting laid is very hard, then you're under stress.  Displaying that stress is like a shiny red beacon screaming "BETAMALE: AVOID!"  Also explains why women respond favorably to men with ripped abs.  Low BF around stomach signals low stress hormones.  Explains why life is just more fun when you're in state... you're feeling dominant, your pleasure centers are more active, stress hormones go away.  Explains how being chronically subordinate to others (eg living under social conditioning and accepting beta social status under others) makes you more and more beta in a downward spiral.  Explains importance of having your own fun, bringing the party, being a value giver.  If you give value to others, this means you are stress-free and probably therefore alpha.  If you walk up with an empty cup asking for them to fill it, this means you probably are under a lot of stress and need them to help you relieve that stress, and therefore you're probably beta.  Choosing to live your life in a fun way that helps you blow off stress (exercise is great for this) enables you to literally become more alpha on a biological level.

Hah, what a coincidence, I just watched this like literally 3 days ago.  Good stuff.  Netflix streaming is badass cuz of all these cool documentaries on here.  After Tyler showed a clip of this on free tour I remember mentally noting that I should check it out, and then it took me like 9 months of course.

I didn't take away that "ripped abs" thing, but it totally makes sense.

I'm definitely focusing on remaining "stress-free" as of watching that documentary; as I know this has been a big deal for me lately (been focusing on stuff other than going out and not hitting that state 3-5 nights a week lets me get into that worry worry lets get shit done mode).

BTW one thing that got glossed over is at the end when all the "alpha baboons" died off, the "beta baboon-ized" society was overall way happier.  This might be an "anti-point" for PU -- or maybe its a point to "model" for people you hang with.

I rad the title and have felt this way for the last month or so. I am trying to fight the stress and it only makes it worse. Back to the yoga.

Steve-O, I would not mentally try to fight the stress.  Just do things that naturally let you blow it off.  Obviously sex is good for this, but also lifting weights, running, hitting a heavy bag.  Anything physical.  I would imagine rollercoasters, sky-diving and other similar activites are great for this.  You can also just focus on what you are grateful for or happy about in your life.

Utopia, I did NOT know Tyler showed clips of this on the free tour... that's awesome!

Yeah, there is a big part in the doc that talks about how in America, we glorify workaholics and people who can juggle five things at once.  We glorify people who welcome unhealthy stress into their life.  When what we should be doing is glorifying people who know how to mellow out... have fun, turn off the brain for a while and play with your dog, climb a tree, meditate in nature, go for a walk.  That's the stuff we should be heading toward instead of making multi-tasking productivity-hounds into gods.

The part where the alphas die off and society is happier COULD be a counter-point to PU, but the fact is, that baboon tribe was no more than 100 or so.  Humanity as a whole is a massive tribe of billions of people.  There is no way the alphas will all die off simultaneously, so we live in a world where where alphas do exist and there IS a hierarchy.  That's the reality.  So I mean, imagine if all human alphas died off and the world was left with niceguy chodes.  I mean, you might see less conflict in general, less wars, less domestic abuse.  But would women be overall happier?  Or more bored?

Another point worth mentioning is that the right amount of stress equals excitement.  Stress of trying new things, expanding our human potential.  That's good.  It's chronic stress that's bad.

I agree a lot with what you wrote.

Once I understood that some time ago I made a point of leveling down my overall stress levels. It's better for your immune system, your sleep, etc.

Thing is, I went too much from one extreme (much stress every day) to the other (I am not stressed by important things I haven't taken care of).

Being stress free and working toward the achievement of your goals requires a beautiful yet difficult balance.

I remember Tolle explaining a way to find that balance in A New Earth: for him, stress appears when you are focused on the outcome at the expense of the process occuring in the now. It was very interesting, check it out.

Hey Guys,

How do you guys approach this Social Rank type of thing?

Are you aiming to play the social game to get higher up in the social order by using symbols as money, prestige, power, etc etc.?

Or do you sort of come at it as an 'outlaw' that is AWARE of the social dynamics going on but uses them instead of them using you? Not needing anything but the conviction of your own being.

How are you approaching this social structure/ranking system?

Cheers.,

Oz

This is why after a night of making out with 5 girls you go home feeling completely relaxed and little need to over=analyze.

Get the game down and you may find you feel this way most of the time -- so long as you don't attach your self image to it, as tends to be common in the first few years.

Another guy in this thread raised an interesting point.  This all seems to feed into each other and create a sort of loop... feel less stress, get more girls.  Get more girls, feel less stress.  Rich get richer and poor get poorer.

But yeah I've definitely experienced this phenomenon you're talking about... come back from making out or sealing the deal and I'm super relaxed.  I think this also explains why it's common for guys with girlfriends to attract more girls than they did while single... because their cortisol levels are lower and they are therefore putting out a much more chill vibe due to no stress about woman situation.  It's a lack of neediness, but I think neediness is outwardly expressed through antsiness, which is something brought on by feeling stress.  If a guy had no women and he simply felt no stress about it, no feelings of inferiority, then he wouldn't be tensed and weird and antsy around girls.  It's the stress that he feels compelling him to be needy, not simply the fact of having no girls.

And btw, I know you know all this... I'm simply writing it out for my own understanding, not "explaining" it to you or something :)

Thanks man!  Interesting findings...

"We speculate, then, that males with low cortisol possess something desirable that women seek to secure for their offspring," Moore said. "This could be, for example, good health or a healthy response to stress."

Being unreactive and centered in your own reality have always been two very key concepts, and I think this explains why, to a large extent.  Stress = tense, stifled, or weird demeanor = probably not preselected by women = beta.
