My name is Cupcakes, and I'm addicted to junk food.

I just finished gorging myself on chocolate, soft drink, lollies, and ice cream. Eating this stuff makes me feel guilty as hell. I tell myself I'm going to quit it, but I always give in. It starts with "just one" biscuit, or piece of chocolate, then "just another won't hurt", and before long I'm stuffing myself full. It gets to the point where I think "oh fuck it, I've already eaten all this so a little bit more won't kill me. I'll start eating heathy again tomorrow."

It tastes so good! But I realise that the pleasure this food gives me is a fleeting one. How long does it take to suck down a mouthful of ice cream? How long does a bar of chocolate take to eat? And how long do I feel guilty for after eating this? The pain lasts far longer than the pleasure, but I keep giving in. Eat to live, don't live to eat.

So today I've resolved once again to EAT HEALTHY. I won't eat more than 2,000 calories per day. I won't eat junk food. I won't make exceptions (this is also why I believe new years' resolutions are bad: if you don't have the commitment to decide to change yourself today, you aren't going to magically have it come January 1.)

I'm going to post my progress in this thread each day. I'll be asking myself 2 questions at the end of each day.

Did I eat less than 2,000 calories today?
Did I eat healthy today?

I used to drink a lot of coke, sprite and shit like that....switching to pure still water was the first and biggest step to reach a healthy diet!

The second biggest advice....if your house is full of biscuits and icecreams you will probably eat them sooner or later.....buy only fruits instead !

Eating healthy starts in the GROCERY STORE.  STOP buying shit foods.  Stock up only on healthy foods so that when you are hungry in your house, healthy food is your only option.  Stop buying ice cream, cupcakes, sugary sodas, etc.

Switch all your sodas to diet.  I actually find diet sodas taste BETTER than regular sodas... and they don't leave a thick film of plaque on your teeth.

"Drinking" your calories is a very insidious way to get fat because your body has a much harder time recognizing that you are consuming calories from liquid than from normal solid food.

Get the ebook: "Burn the Fat, Feed the Muscle" and pay close attention to the nutrition parts.  You want to be eating a good amount of lean protein and complex carbohydrates.

Quick suggestions for protein: baked chicken, turkey, liquid egg whites, tuna.
Quick suggestions for carbs: brown rice, granola, vegetables (microwavable steamer packs are good), fruit (sparingly), oatmeal

Get rid of all unnecessary sugar.  You can still treat yourself once in a while with something you wouldn't ordinarily eat, but don't make a damn meal out of it.  You dig?

BTW, I started a thread tracking my progress on bodybuilding.com.  I can link you if you want.  I'm doing pretty damn good.  Good luck.

For me what actually did the trick was looking at the calories in the boxes, that's the best way to make yourself feel guilty as hell.

I used to drink a lot of coke as well, lots of sweets, even though I was never fat. Now I look at something like a simple mars chocolate, see something like 200 calories and think, HOLY FUCK, THAT'S MY WHOLE LUNCH! NO WAY!

There are suppliments that you can get over the counter that will help to curb the cravings. Some people will question if this is actually necessary. Lets not lose site of the fact that many junk foods are chemically engineered to make you crave them even more. The supplements helped me big time!

Friday, December 17 = SUCCESS!
Didn't eat to excess and didn't eat any junk.

Drama: I checked out the Primal Blueprint. I like it! It makes perfect sense. I spent about an hour reading Marks' site and I'm going to apply a few of the things he talks about. My diet isn't actually that bad, save for the moments of binging every few days. Thanks for the reccommendation.

..and lol, yes. I saw the irony as soon in my name as I started typing this out, but I couldn't find a witty enough way to poke fun at it. That's what you guys are for ;)

The biggest mistake which people make in the step of 'becoming' healthier is to CUT out all form of junk food. This is wrong. You DON'T have to cut out junk food completely. I mean, I work out, I've got a decent body, well toned but here's the thing, if you make you're body crave for certain foods, you will find yourself, battling with your mind! You will feel that you want it, and you want that chocolate so bad that everyday, you'll push yourself until one day, you'll crack and could possible eat a whole chocolate factory. All efforts gone in a few seconds.

Here is what I do, I allow myself, ONE DAY ONLY! ONLY ONE DAY! when I eat whatever I want and the rest of week, its full on diet meals!  On that ONE DAY, I allow myself to eat everything but WITH A LIMIT. I don't exceed 2000 calories, and hardly exceed my fat limit. The point is, you can have a pizza + a chocolate dessert but you will drink water and nothing but water. I hardly drink fizzy drinks, actually I can say I don't drink fizzy drinks at all unless am out. The whole week is water + high protein + low fat  meals.

P.S: since you are addicted to junk food, i'd recommend you hit the gym twice as hard.

Optimus.

dude I swear to God I was just talking about this with one of my buddies... yeah currently cutting had some pasta yesterday as a cheat meal and he was like 'man I thought' you were on a diet... can also be a double edged sword when you start cheating every day, but this NEVER AGAIN failed to work for me in several areas of my life b/c of this exact reason - if you ever break the new pattern (say you sweared yourself 2 years ago to stop gambling/drinking/eating junk ever again in your life) you will most likely indulge in it again, and to a much greater extent... I think this is also a principle in nlp and psichiatry - correct me if I'm wrong - if you are in state A then get in state B and then return in state A, you experience it on a deeper level

I got that same addiction thing with games, I used to drown myself in the stuff but now im clean. Allmost actually, I just leave a few little games lying around all the time (the ones that don't take much time to play till the finish) and thats it.
I heard from a friend of mine that quit smoking, that completely removing the stuff from the house makes it harder to stop... because then its scarce... so then you want it even more;P.
Just don't go shopping when your hungry would be my advice, that way you can take a well moderated approach. O and taking small meals would work great as wel because then your never really hungry.
