whats the logistics of the course? I mean, I work and cannot take 10 days off. I cant even take 3 days off in a row.

Go here and see if there's a short introductory course that explains just the basics and is less than 10 days, I know that certain locations have them;
www.dhamma.org/en/bycountry/
Logistics are 10 days of silence, no electronics, virtually no human contact in order to isolate you into your own mind. All of your food, lodging, and stuff that you'd need at the course are paid for. Just bring comfortable clothing for 10 days, some shower supplies, and whatever else you think you'd might need that's on the list.

There is actually one of these retreats available really close to me. Would be cool to do it in the holidays, but what do I tell my parents? They are pretty conservative and wouldn't understand me being away for 10 days of no contact etc. and I can't think of something else that would involve me not being at my phone for 10 days.

Just tell them and go, it's that simple
Just tell them the truth...
Just tell them and go, it's that simple

I have a lot of experience with trance work. However i've never meditated 2-3hr/day for longer periods of time (on rare occasions 12 hours a day but for several days), always found it better to read a book or something. Now that changed. Anybody meditated 2+ hours a day for at least 6 months? Any tips?
Nobody has mentioned so far about meditating with a specific focus. I've found great answers to some of my problems while in meditative state, like i get ideas that i wouldnt get otherwise and all seems much clearer when in deep trance. Tough decisions become easy. Anybody done this before? .........Channeling?

My brother went on two seperate 10 day courses. If you are in the UK, I believe their is a centre down in Hereford and I'm sure that is the one he went too? I haven't read the thread but I'm sure these centres are scattered about. He did the first 10 day course, came out, listened to music and he said it was like listening to music for the very first time again. The second time, he didn't manage to complete the full 10 day course and he said he had to much going on in his head, he was abit panicky and left a few days in.
I'm interested to do it, but 10 days seems really fucking intense, a 3 day course would suit me initally.

In VP, we do something called a "sitting of strong determination". Which means, for one hour, I cannot move, at all. I cannot open my eyes, I cannot move my legs, I cannot open my hands or arms. I probably did about 50 or 60 of those during the entire 10 days.
How does that carry onto schoolwork?
Well, recently, I just wrote a 1700 word article that would normally take me 4-5 days, but I did it in a complete 3 hour sitting. Normally, I'd be taking breaks, procrastinating, but I *determined* myself to get it done. With determination, you'll find that the mind automatically focuses and becomes clearer.
Meditation WILL help you clear you mind and focus, but it's not the final goal. The goal of VP in particular is to purify the mind. There are many meditations that will help you calm and focus the mind, but this VP meditation goes to purify it. As a result, the mind DOES become a LOT quieter. Even now, I'm able to focus with an unprecedented amount of clarity.
My writing has gotten better, my piano playing has gotten much better, and I'm able to do simple, mundane tasks with an amazing amount of efficiency. It's like the hood has been taken off from over my head.

After reading this whole thread I guess I've gotten my question answered.
But could anyone share experience on how meditating has affected your shcool work?
Either here or in my thread http://www.rsdnation.com/node/179617?page=1#comment-693791
