I am really into hip hop music. My favorite song now is Forever by Drake and company. But other artists like Lil' Wayne, Jay-Z, just have an air of confidence, cockiness and play it to the hilt.   They have a swagger!

Rap stars... flow, they speak with passion it pulls people into their lives. I am a white boy from NH but I eat up the hip hop flavor. The main reason their music hits me is that they believe. They believe in themselves. They have to. They are in a uber competitive industry where new rappers come up with new sounds and raps every month.

It is the rapper that puts the work in, they spend time honing their craft. If you doubt yourself in this industry you will lose. If you doubt yourself when you are out at a night club, you will fail. You will lose the girls. It is their swagger that helps them put hit albums out all the time.

Find your swagger, internalize that shit. Let it come to the surface... Understand that nothing is done for you, you have to do it for yourself. Some find some swagger and swing for the fences. More often than not, you will hit it out of the park. If you don't? Realize you are pushing yourself forward.

Most of their is not about love, and sappiness like most of the pop music on the radio. I can listen to that shit anymore. I think that current rap music is not socially conditioned with love and sappiness concepts. I think the feel of the music promotes this type of message.

interesting take, not one i agree with, but interesting. personally i always felt that a lot of rap music ecourages you to want materialistic things that wont make you happy, and to act in a way that is ingeniune but makes you come off as a badass, in your mind anyway.

My levels of rage can not be put into words.

I only listen to rap music and I know that most mainstream rap is shit.  I'm not arguing with that.

What I dont understand is how you feel the right to word your statement as if his thoughts are wrong based on that one fact.  You dont have to listen to mainstream rap.  The point that it sucks is completely irrelevant.

Also, relating to what OP said:

Rap music has alot of great examples of good PU beliefs in it.

One that comes to mind is Lil Wayne in We Be Steady Mobbin.  The line goes "Yeah, and fuck these bitches, I swear I care about everything but these bitches"

apart from the rap comparison, it's a great message that steve-o made. im just not seeing how it relates to rap. that lil wayne quote just further convinces me that rap can be a bad influence if you let it. unreactive and outright lashing out at "bitches" are two different things. rap music can pump you up though, just dont let some of its more negative aspects seap into you.

Root your reality in yourself not in external influences.
