THE FORUMS
I did a personal training session at my university since it was cheap for students...
I'm 5'8-5'9 around 138-140 lbs and overall average bodyfat of 16%
here's what my trainer recommend me to do
3-4x a week
benchpress, 2 sets of 8-12 reps
lat pulldown , 2 sets of 8-12 reps
the above is done back to back, ie, benchpress, then immediately go do lat pulldown, rest 60 seconds, then back to benchpress and then lat pulldown again
then
inclined dumbell press, 2 sets of 8-12 reps
barbell rows 2 sets of 8-12
same structure as above
then
sumo squat with dumbell, 2 sets of 8-12 reps
leg curls, 2 sets of 8-12 reps
then split lunges with dumbells 16-20 reps total (or until failure)
I do my abs at home using the P90X ab-ripper x program
for nutrition, i basically have to increase my daily food intake, my trainer recommended taking whey protein as a supplement
so basically i follow the above structure 3-4x a week
any comments/critiques, is this a good training routine for a beginner? should i incorporate other exercises like dumbell curls?
also, I started to do cardio every day now that it's getting warmer, running 4 miles a day, should I cut that out if I want to bulk up? The thing is, I start feeling like crap if I don't run. I like the feeling you get after a long run/jog
one more thing, I'm feeling really sore today in pretty much every part of my body after yesterday's workout, is it a good idea to do another full body workout tomorrow?

Exhilator, if you notice a sudden drop in body weight, you are over working. rest for a few days and get back in there!
Soreness is your body's warning system to prevent damage. It is just a warning. Perfect form will make sure you do not get injured and you can keep lifting. Soreness is GOOD.
whey is great. I have a 2 scoop shake everyday. watch out for the gas though! whew that stuff makes my farts smell like a dead racoon.

I'm doing a great workout program. My goal is I want to be able to dunk by the end of the summer though. Would I be overtraining if I did a plyometrics in addition to my weight training?

Just to let you know all things are well aboard the good ol ship no grain/paleo. More ripped and setting PBs on both weights and cardio. Good times!
However it's time to replenish my whey and cassein supplies - would you be able to pick one of each out for me? (I'm UK so http://www.myprotein.co.uk/ is good for me, let me know if there's nothing appropriate on there and ill see if theres other suitable sites).
I don't mind paying extra for quality but keep it sensible - I go through a ton of the stuff so it's not cheap.
Cheers Sam
Ps not sure if you already do but be sure to incorporate a blog called marksdailyapple into your reading - that guy rocks. Also worth reading is "The Great Cholesterol Con" book. very imformative and in the face of conventional wisdom.
