"Whadup, holmes!"

"How's it going?!"

I've just landed here in the cold winter darkness of Gothenburg... And I'm just about to head out, and finally get my Swedish back on!

"Svenska flicka mycket dricker!"

But first... ;]

Screw Any ONE Style Of Game: Accepting The Paradoxes That Will Turn You Into A True Player

The paradoxes of the game...

What a FUCKING head trip!!!

So, one of the themes that I've started noticing among some of the more recent YouTube comments, has been:

"one minute they say: it's better to be urself and be congruent, then next minute they say: force yourself to change. I understand a lot of it, but I wish they'd explain the contradictions in more detail"

"who cares about the girl, it's about yourself (ie. game)." ...however on a previously video you have said "in the end it's about getting the girl, stop focusing on Gaaame"

"I only use hard scientific facts to help my game, not wishy washy theory"

"Why are there so many PARADOXES and CONTRADICTIONS in the game?"

Well, let me start off by saying that if you're someone who's actually going out and who's actually trying out all of the different concept and theories from the ridiculous amount of free content that we've been putting out, then there aren't going to be any paradoxes or contradictions, at all.

A lot of pickup is actually very "common sense" as long as you're going out and applying what you've learned.

It shouldn't be THAT confusing.

But the thing is, without the actual FIELD EXPERIENCE of you going out and applying what you've learned, it's close to impossible to FULLY "GET" all the content that's being put out there.

Your brain won't be able to grasp all of the complexities.

Going out is basically the only key to deciphering all of the theory that's being put out.

Without it, you're fucked.

You can get a general idea of what game looks like through speculation, but it's never going to be at that same level of understanding.

You have to go out in order to resolve these so called paradoxes or contradictions.

Secondly, what's important to realize is that PICKUP IS AN ART, NOT A SCIENCE.

You're not dealing with numbers or statistics here, you're dealing with actual human beings.

You're dealing with the unknown.

And there are just too many variables to come at this in a very "logical" way.

Game is not about being logical, in case you haven't noticed... ;]

Trying to breakdown your success with women in a scientific way is like trying to measure the human soul using mathematics.

It's impossible.

It's just not going to happen, and you have to start accepting that.

Everything about game can be explained in an infinite amount of different ways and in every single type of interaction there are an infinite amount of "right" things to do.

It's never either or...

It's hot and it's cold.

It's black and it's white. (Ha!)

Start accepting the paradoxes and start viewing all of these concepts, not as ultimate truths, but as tools to help you with your craft.

And of course, GET OUT OF THE FUCKING HOUSE!!! ;]

The problems are:

1) the difficulty of analysing somthing which is always changing,
2) the insufficiency of Greek two-valued logic,
3) the nature of context,
4) two people with different cognitive systems can observe the same event and draw different conclusions

This process of classification and labeling ignores the qualities which make events unique and considers only those qualities which events are believed to share or to have in common. In this process, each society (and each person in that society) classifies its experiences and events into categories and then gives labels to these categories and puts a relative value on them -- regarding some of them as good or desirable and others as less good and less desirable.

Such is the nature of knowlege.

Julien, that shot of you on top of the rock is probably the best I've ever seen iin an RSD vid.  You have brass balls to do that.  I thik I would get vertigo, fall off and plunge 1000+ feet to my death.

Awesome vid, the content and the shot, talking at the top of that rock. Dealing with the unknown and all the contradictions, great teaching! Allow us to develop the ability to deal with anything that comes our way, independently of the outcome. Many thanks Julien!

Having a love for the unknown - pushing yourself beyond your confort zone-
when something scares you- you should do it - gun to your head and do it.

I love all talk about this, And julien seems to be the one that talks the most about it, and because his game is sometimes very ballsy he is the best instructor to talk about this.

People care more about being first than understanding and implementing the content.

What a view, Jesus Christ!

Probably the best location shot of the year.

The point about contradictions is bang on IME.  I've gone out 4 - 7 nights a week since day one of finding this stuff, and always wanted more ideas.

I never felt confused because I was out so much regardless.  It was just more stimulation for my brain -- fully coming from a HOBBYISTS perspective, never like I "wasn't enough" and needed to learn the next "secret trick".

OTOH I could see how people simply lack the motivation to go out often, and would prefer something they find simpler and more dogmatic.  Depends on the individual.

Julien, if pickup teachers actually told guys FROM THE BEGINNING "This won't work with every girl and in every situation. It depends. You need to have the experience to decide when to do what" there wouldn't be a problem.

Instead every pickup product sounds like "This is the one way to do it always, do it".

It's obvious what a mancrush Julien has on Tyler.
Julien is worshipping Tyler and to be like him would be the greatest thing ever for him.
Not that I'm hating, just saying how it is.

So to Julien: You would get more respect if you chose to do your own thing instead of being an Owen copycat.

Still, good stuff though (didn't watch the video but I'm guessing).

 WTF, Julien in nature?

Funny how we had this conversation about how what invigorates me was the outdoors.

Seems like in a way, things have gone full circle.

You've had some sick outdoor adventures and i've experienced more in game.

As fucked up as you are to the world, your lifestyle shift is one of the most inspiring stories I've ever seen.

whenever im feeling like Im never going to "get" this I come to RSD and I always suddenly feel better. No offence against the other coaches but Julien's stuff always seems to stick in my brain more for some reason, I always walk away feeling more confident and resolved. Many thanks!

also this video makes me want to travel the world even more. Amazing view.

Good introspection man!  Nobody would hate on you LOL!

Wonderland wrote:
hehe, ill probably get hated on for saying this, but o well

when i first got into the game, i figured it was all about the methodology and that
by learning all the different "styles" or whatever that i would become some sort of master
and i was very confused by the contradictions

(like some saying don't go to the club vs going to the club, not saying too much or speaking
too fast vs million dollarmouthpiece, keeping an approach short before going for # vs talking
for 45 minutes, showing interest vs acting like you don't like them, etc, etc, on and on)

now i pretty much see that its all common sense but you kinda have to "know what to do"
when it comes to the technical stuff (which comes from experience), like not asking a girl
a technical question  , a kind of obvious mistake...

very hard way to think for a mechanical minded, black and white thinking aspie like myself
lol , with no intuition or ability to read situations..this game is better suited to the
emotionally intelligent

This is like the philosophical manifestation of Brad's swinging pendulum idea.  Put the two together and you have both a practical model and a mental model for working through plateaus and sticking points...

I sooo agree with the concepts in this video. I've had similar understandings, in fact I wrote something quite related on my own blog! Not sure my personal game story will interest anyone but here it is anyway http://www.brad-p.com/about-me/ if you're bored ;) Thanks Julien!

Adding, the best point is that it's about you and how you adapt to situations and make the best of them rather than trying to create a math formula of how the world works as this is as Julien mentioned, quite obviously impossible.
