Ohai there.

So the entire last week was a real humdinger, with the Giants win, victory parade and Halloween tomfoolery all rolled into one, followed by an amazing sunny weekend with day game at the park. The vaunted San Francisco "Indian summer"  extending all the way into November. Good times.

I'm in Cali for the next couple of weeks and then it's travel times once more. Here's the schedule:

November 9-11: San Francisco
November 15-17: Los Angeles
November 22-24: Vancouver
November 30-Dec2: Seattle (w/ Alex)
December 6-8: Las Vegas (w/ Tyler)
December 21-23: San Francisco
December 28-30: San Francisco
January 3-5: Los Angeles
January 10-12: Atlanta
January 18-20: San Francisco
January 24-26: Austin
February 1-2: San Francisco
February 7-11: New Orleans 5-Day Mardi Gras Alumni Bootcamp (w/ Tyler + Julien)

So today's video is a two-parter clocking in at 13 minutes. The first half was recorded smack dab in the middle of the riot itself in the immediate moments after the Giants won the Series. The last time they won I was there as well, but was so wasted that upon review, 90 percent of the footage was useless garbage. This year I was equally intoxicated but had a sort of game plan going in, so managed to get some good stuff before sailing off into DURR land completely.

I then went to the more family-friendly ticker tape parade celebrating the victory three days later, and shot a supplemental video when I was a bit more... coherent. lol

The video is about how the team was able to overcome some pretty serious setbacks and come back to win it all, and how that relates to the struggle many guys encounter when learning game. I mean, these guys are some scrappy little fucks. Fans of the team often refer to the "sweet torture" of watching them have to scratch and claw till the bitter end to pull off wins most of the time. Even when they're down you can't count them out. And then, when you're least expecting it, WHAM they bring some superman shit to the table and SWEEP a team that all of the experts said were gonna just dominate them.

ESPN 2012 world Series Expert Predictions

Another interesting thing to note about the team is that it's filled with these kind of unique characters. They're not exactly the square jawed American heroes like Derek Jeter banging supermodels and shit. (although I'm sure they get plenty of hot ass - check out the "infield footage" of Sergio Romo starting at 11:55... beasting the lady reporter while wearing locs and a t-shirt that says "I JUST LOOK ILLEGAL" hahaha. Strong claw on that guy... just watch his swag). They've kind of got that oddball thing going, which is something that really strikes a chord with me and my own life. Taking eccentricities and turning them into gold.

Other little highlights include the random drunk guy who was sitting next to me at the bar interloping into the video repeatedly, and the terrified elderly tourists on the bus at 1:50. I showed this video to Owen, and he said it represents "the kind of work I'm capable of producing when I'm having fun," and I'm inclined to agree with him. Enjoy:

RIOT GAME: Overcoming Adversity

The idea here is to take some inspiration from the Giants and really look at the areas where YOU might be inadvertently imposing limits on yourself that you shouldn't, because of limiting beliefs. Understand that tough setbacks condition you to breeze past the little ones, and that the harder you work for it, the sweeter it is when you achieve it.

Also note that there is a cyclical nature to the game. It can't all be awesome times lording it up in the club with the turbos. There will be dry spells, periods of reflection when you lose interest in the game, etc etc. The way you react to these periods is what really defines you.

For example, the Giants had this amazing 2010 series, then everything just sort of fell apart the next year. There was the Posey injury, and even an incident where a Giants fan, Bryan Stow, got the shit kicked out of him and put into a coma by some Dodger fans at a game in LA. That was just a huge bummer and you could tell the team and the city's morale was completely fucked. But in many ways, they used all that as the fuel, the inspiration to come back and perform at a higher level than ever before.

That's cyclical nature of the game, and of life really.

A few weeks ago I had what I felt was the PERFECT DAY... I remember lying in the park, students getting it done, hot ass girl next to me in the sun, my shirt off ripped thinking: "I could die right now and it would be at the peak of my existence." I almost wanted a meteor to fall out of the sky and strike me dead - a perfect moment. Like, "it can't get any better... but it could get worse."

I told Owen this and he replied, "It'll get both better AND worse. It's fine."

Isn't that the truth.

See you guys next week with a video from Calgary about the benefits and pitfalls of learning the game as a youngster vs. an elder gentleman.

Cheers,

j

Similar concepts in “First rate madness “It’s all good even the horrible shit eventually is good.

“If your not winning your learning”

If you implement what you learn you progress, keep progressing and you win…

Jeffy, what fucking metal song was that during the riots? It pumped me up. Listen to Exodus - Deliver us to Evil.

I knew there was some reason why we were both so fucking similarly aggressive and insane. Fucking heavy as shit metal, that's why.

" hahaha.  Ur right I think most people don't really take the full value that is really there, However I do appreciate it on such a deep level, it all strikes a chord and the perspective helps soooo much.  I hope you do strike your best balance of fun and work to keep puttin out grade A material like this, cuz Tyler is right about ur potential and abilities.  I wish I lived in SF haha it looks so fun!!
