Aloha bitches, Jeffy here fresh off the plane from Hawaii where I attended Papa's wedding. Sprained my ankle pretty badly on the dance floor so I may be out of commission for the next couple of weeks, but as soon as I'm cleared by my doctor I'll be back running Bootcamps in the following locations:
December 28-30: San Francisco
January 3-5: Los Angeles
January 11-13: San Francisco
January 17-19: Edmonton
January 24-26: Austin
February 1-2: San Francisco
February 12-16: New Orleans (w/ Tyler + Julien)
February 19-23: Miami 5-Day Alumni BC (w/ Tyler + Julien)
February 26-Mar 3: Miami 5-Day Alumni BC (w/ Tyler + Julien)
Cool, so I shot this video on the beach in Maui right before the wedding and in it I discuss a couple of ideas that struck me as particularly relevant from two books recently given to me by Tyler: "A First-Rate Madness" and "Hannibal and Me." Both are related to long-term strategizing and looking at the big picture when it comes to your self-development. As I prepare to turn 37 next month, the importance of this becomes more and more evident and is something that I wish I had understood better in my twenties. Given the youthful demographic of the RSD readership I figured it could prove a valuable topic.... so here we go:
While I'm on the subject of Hawaii, I also dug up another old video from 2008, the summer I did the famous 11 mile hike of the Napali Coast of Kauai with the RSD guys. I remember being on that hike and plodding along after the seventh mile, feet blistered, wanting to stop but not being able to - you have to make it to the end of the trail before darkness falls or you're fucked... there's nowhere to camp on the narrow single-track trail... thinking "this is what slaves felt like in ancient egypt times... you want to stop but If you do, you die."
You eventually accept it, and transcend the pain, focusing on each step and not just appreciating the scenery, but becoming part of it. There's a metaphor for life in there, but I'm on too much vicodin to tease it out right now. Just watching this video makes my ankle hurt... more... than... it already does. lol. Also look out for FAT BALD TYLER's cameo at the end. hahahah
Anyways, heading off to my doctors appointment, if he clears me to tape the ankle and run bootcamp I'm gonna do it up cane and all. If not, then netflix and tears in the night. And sex. and bourbon.
See you next week!

Watching your video I was reminded of this guy Dave Draper. At one time, he almost died from drugs and drink. After that he changed his life around and this is Dave Draper at around 70.

awesome you sealed the deal.
and the concept of yesterday's success becoming tomorrow's obstacle is interesting.

So true with the crippling success thing. I guess in some sense its easier coming from a place of scarcity or atheist no pressure since you basically don't have anything to loose. You see that in some people and sometimes even in my self that you form an ego around the success which makes you scared of challenging that. One way is offcourse to freak out and loose what you gained with purposes so you won't have that ego to protect anymore but it's not a very healthy or mature way of living. I wonder what the best way is to get rid of the fear and keep yourself motivated. Probably it's to keep at your life's purpose, keep calm and carry on :-)

I really enjoyed GLODT, but was... not disapointed because I was barely able to put the book down until I finished it, but it was weird because the writing was so enticing that made one aspire to try your techniques, which were mostly canned material. Haha!
I think readers like me are thirsty to take such a beastly ride of authenticity.

Re the fellow that tries to pimp the broad from you in the club...was a gift (kept you sharp as it were). One of my fav vblogs from Owen, the one thru the aquarium...
"Everything that happens to you / us is a Gift: As you are the only constant, everything is merely a passing transient experience…’stuff’ comes (in this case, happiness :), orbits you for a few moons………and then not unlike a comet goes (sadness, or vice versa in an opposing example): …and the lesson here is then, that it’s time to come back to center. You may be stimulated for a while like a good meal but then when you think back to it, you can barely remember it and all that’s left is that person you are now, so have faith that the journey (whatever happens, happened or is happening to you / us) is leading you somewhere and teaching you shit…make ‘them’ a higher priority than the surface level experience offered."

Your Napali hike has inspired me to do the same. Whenever I think of something I want to do but know I can't do it, I Fucking Do It! Whether I fail or not - I take something from that experience.
Boom!

Liked how you dealt with that would-be cock blocker!
I also liked the theme of the video, success can be a barrier. I had some early successes in life and I allowed it to blind me of work that I needed to do in banging hotter broads, being financially free, and having other improvements in my life. I will continue to stay open to ideas and forever be a student of life.

Lately, I've been finding issues with wanting to replicate the successes of the prior night, to no avail.
Usually leads to me being fucking pissed at myself because it wasn't as good as the prior night.
The introspection and adjustment is a bit of an ass kicker but since I'm in this for the long haul, I'm bearing through it.
