We Love Brad

Brad-

Here’s the next in the series of vBlog. I’ve had a bunch of guys ask about how the old breaking rapport tonality is supposed to sound.

I’ve written the Command and Challenge e-book, and it’s currently being edited. It should be up shortly.

For now, enjoy the video…

Nice to see the master demonstrate it.  I just realized how bad my tonality can be sometimes.

This shit is awesome. I like how you clearify the difference between the "asshole tonality" and the errr "cool dude tonality". :]

Btw LOL, Do you normally talk relaxed and more smooth and quiet (like first in the video) and then switch to louder BR-tonality while gaming? Your smooth and more quiet voice was like bed-talk lol. :]

This might be one of the most useful videos posted in any of the instructor articles on RSDNation.  Props to Brad for making it!

It's hard to represent tonality through text and most guys I've seen with problems on the forum or in person haven't seemed to grasp the difference between "hey?  you're CUTE?" and "HEY.  you're CUTE."  When your eBook's done, it'd be great if you offered an audio version of it where people can hear the nuances.

For anyone who missed it, this is the free Hot Seat clip Tyler posted up:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SWHV3mGX2O8  -  Watch it starting at 2:20, Tyler breaking down Brad's tonality will make even more sense after watching this new article's video.

HEY BRAD! I LIKE THE WAY YOU TALK ABOUT THIS!

HAH, just praticing ;]

And I also like some of the commonalites on body language that you guys from the crew have, that fury on your face moments after u talk about the donald trump frame.

i dont get the part of 'challenging' yet, but i will see the video again. keep 'em coming!

p.s: I'm curious to see a book about tonality/projection (..?) - yeah I know some guy already do this, but in you case, why not a DVD?

This is the best post in a long time. I consciously applied it today and the way everyone responds to you is completely different. Not only chicks, but guys somehow seem to immediately think that you're cool. The little chats with girls I had were somehow instantly flirty. This is good shit!

Command and Conquer Red Alert 2. I haven't played that in years. Awesome game.

And yes those were mind controled squid in the intro.

Anyway great article, I have tried to apply it a little bit but it is rather hard to do it when your nervous it comes off as not congruent, I am just trying to practice that tone around my friends and people I see everyday, its working out pretty well. Like always I'll try and implement into my game ASAP, next time I go out.

I like the part of the video where Brad was kidnapped by enemy spies and he was like "Hey enemy spies, Let me go!" and then he used a lazer on his watch to cut through the ropes and then he stole there airplane. Then he jumped out and parachuted down and let the airplane crash and explode and it was like "pcdkhuuuBOOMchucmpft"

It's like, Brad, you know, like, basically, like, you've an executive coach, right, yet, ultimately, like, half of what you like, say, you know, is like, these filler words, and like, if you just, ultimately, cut that shit out, you know, your tonality would be much more powerful.  You know?

Thank you sir for the constructive criticism, I'll study this shit left and right and expunge any likeness from my diction ASAP.

Tonality goes hand in hand with volume. Hearing the video made me think about it a bit. NR <-> BR implies confidence, so in order to be congruent, you need to have the right loudness level for the situation. A lot of times, I find myself wondering, why didn't that conversation work better, my tonality and body language was TIGHT. I was congruent, right?

No - I am often too quiet in loud situations like clubs. Which implies lack of confidence, and thus reveals my incongruence.

You also notice how Brad makes really solid eye contact with the camera - not staring into it weirdly, but always "piercing" the lens when he mades the key points of his spheal. Your BR will come off as feigned if you cant have that golden eye contact.

No Brad, nothing else, and you can add humility to the list of qualities I respect you for.  Take note, everyone:  RSD is punctilious about every aspect of their game.

While you're working on your professionalism/presentation, I think one thing you should at least look at is holding your focus for longer. You seem to keep a good gaze at the camera when you put enthusiasm into what you're saying, but other times you turn your head to the side and it's distracting. You could use it to your advantage to look directly at the camera the majority of the time. It may help you think about what you're going to say and how, but it's a minor distraction. A little is okay and natural, it just seemed you lost eye contact frequently, though the eye contact was powerful when it was there.

I thought it was a great video on tonality by the way. Seeing and hearing is definitely more effective than reading in this case.
