This is the way I've begun to see things.
I remember Tyler talking a bit about in on one of his programs (paraphrase: "I was told it would take me a year and a half to be passably non-chode"), although I never took it as serious as I have after being in this stuff
pretty hardcore for a little more than a year and a half now.
I've been going out with alot of buddies from my local PUA forum lately, giving them free training, advice, demonstrations, etc. They have balls, a willingness to try new things, and a fair amount of natural social intuition.
And yet they still make a large amount of rookie mistakes/social faux-pas. This is purely a matter of social calibration, and the amount of time it takes to learn these things. I remember when I learned to play guitar, I thought I was gonna be fucking Hendrix within a couple years. Lmao, so nieve. Within a year of guitar, I could play basic chords to classic rock songs I enjoyed. Within 2 years, I could solo a bit, and impress lay listeners. Now 3 and half years in, I'm jamming with folks, writing my own music, etc. The pickup game is not much unlike this.
Now there are exceptions to this rule, and many guys (especially those with natural good looks, healthy social lives, or innate self-confidence) can get to be damn good within a year or two. But the vast majority of us will take as long as a year to 18 months to just be passably un-chode.
Then again the vast majority of guys in this community, as I have learned from both personal interaction and just following the boards for a while - are KJs or do not open consistently.
So, with that said, if you're not ready for the kind of workload, stock up on your porn collection, get that new copy of Modern Warfare you've been waiting for, and link back up with your local Chess Club. We won't judge you. In fact, I wish I could go back to those days.
But I can't.
