Keep at it man. I used to be EXTREMELY shy, like girls would tell me 'you're shy', but I would always reply with, "I'm just a quiet kind of guy :)." That sir, is the most response EVER. It was because I walked around saying, "I don't care what people think of me," but deep down I did.
It wasn't until I asked myself some hard questions, then I could genuinely say, "I don't give a FUCK what people think of me."
My perspective on life changed and I was no longer shy. You have to understand that you can't make everybody like you.

Hey 5'9Guy, I can kind of relate to you. I had a severe case of depression early on in high school and lost all of my friends, because I never wanted to talk to anyone or even go outside. I put on a lot of weight and had no social circle what so ever. I even thought of suicide and almost went through with it, but just remember if you really wanted to die, then you would be dead already. This means that you are still willing to fight!
Mid last year I discovered Real Social Dynamics and it changed my life for the better. In 6-8 months I stopped caring what people thought of me, I learnt what really mattered in life, and I finally found some friends who understood me.
You should read the book 'Fight Club' or watch the movie, I could relate to it A LOT and it even had an effect on my life. Also, look into buying the 'Blueprint Decoded, by Tyler Durden' it's AMAZING.

Good luck my friend :).
